Biography

John J. Britton is a shareholder in the firm’s Knoxville office. His practice focuses on litigation in state and federal courts in Tennessee, as well as state and local boards and administrative agencies. He focuses primarily on eminent domain and condemnation, real estate and real estate related litigation, firearms law, contract negotiation and drafting, and business litigation.

In eminent domain matters, Mr. Britton represents both condemning authorities (governments) and landowners whose property is being acquired. He frequently represents individuals in inverse condemnation matters as well as advises government entities about right-of-way acquisition. Mr. Britton has been named “Best Lawyers in America,” Eminent Domain and Condemnation, since 2007. Mr. Britton’s real estate practice includes litigation related to flooding, boundary disputes, contract disputes, lease disputes, and zoning litigation.

Mr. Britton has developed an important niche practice in the area of firearms law. He advises employers regarding firearms issues related to the workplace, assists with carry permits and Federal Firearms Licenses (FFL), advises on gun safety and liability issues, ownership and transportation of firearms, and the legal purchase of NFA weapons. Mr. Britton is also a frequent lecturer in CLE seminars on various gun law issues.
