John M. Rogers

For twenty years, Mr. Rogers has represented small businesses and landowners in almost every facet of their operations. He began his legal career representing borrowers in workouts and federal lawsuits filed by the FDIC and RTC at the height of the savings and loan crises in the early 90s. After earning his board certification in labor and employment law and becoming a director in his former firm, he guided its employment law practice in three states, defending companies and representing executives in the onslaught discrimination complaints that followed the implementation of the Civil Rights Act of 1991. In 2002, Mr. Rogers founded his current firm in Weatherford, Texas where he actively represents clients in all areas of corporate formation, ownership agreements, real estate matters, labor and employment issues, vendor and customer relationships, acquisitions and dissolutions as well as in related litigation.

He also guides individual landowners and joint ventures in real estate acquisition and development efforts, including purchase and sale agreements, mineral leasing, eminent domain proceedings, and in disputes associated with real estate matters.

RECENT EXPERIENCE

Represented a common carrier before the National Labor Relations Board in multiple jurisdictions during the successful resistance of a union organizing campaign

Successful mandamus petition ordering a district judge to cease attempts to exercise authority in a case over which he had lost jurisdiction

Negotiation and enforcement of buy/sell provision in partnership agreement

Successful lawsuit to compel sale of real estate after seller refused to close

Numerous condemnation proceedings related to Barnett Shale gas pipelines

Successful defense of corporation and shareholders in hostile take-over attempt and related settlement of claims against insurance carrier for failure to honor directors and officers insurance policy

Prosecution of overtime wage claims on behalf of a class of employees mischaracterized by their employer as independent contractors

Successful representation of a judge in multiple complaints filed by political opponents

Counsel to numerous political action committees and candidates

Successful representation of a number of companies and former executives in covenant-not-to-compete litigation

Obtained a dismissal of a local bank from a class-action lawsuit filed in Iowa and sustained the victory on appeal to that state's supreme court

Successful settlement of innocent third-party's claims in a cattle rustling/bank fraud case which pended in three different Texas courts. Staff Parish Relations Committee, Aledo United Methodist Church, 2008-2011.
