Biography

John Newby is a shareholder and the managing partner of the Chesterfield office at Tronfeld West & Durrett. Since earning his law degree from Washington and Lee University School of Law in 2001, John has devoted his entire career to personal injury law, representing injured individuals and their families with unwavering dedication. His extensive experience spans thousands of cases—from initial preparation through settlement or verdict—including auto accidents, wrongful death, and premises liability claims. John is an active member of the Virginia State Bar, Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, Richmond Bar Association, and the Million Dollar Advocates Forum. His distinguished record includes securing multiple high-value settlements and verdicts, with several cases recognized among Virginia’s largest by Virginia Lawyers Weekly. John has been selected as a Super Lawyer in personal injury law every year from 2015 through 2026 and was previously recognized as a Rising Star. A U.S. Army veteran, John continues to support the armed forces and enjoys spending time outdoors and traveling with his family. He is a lifelong resident of Powhatan and Chesterfield Counties and holds a B.A. in History from Virginia Commonwealth University.
