John R. Seeds is a shareholder of Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote, P.C., resident in the Pittsburgh office, and serves as Co-Chair of the firm’s Energy Group . Mr. Seeds advises several public and privately-held natural gas production companies concerning unit based title matters and leasehold acquisition, quick response transactional due diligence, division order title, and curative matters for acreage positions in the Marcellus and Utica shale plays throughout Appalachia. He routinely advises operators regarding Ohio’s Dormant Mineral Act, Marketable Title Act, and other statutory regimes impacting oil and gas development in the Utica. Additionally, Mr. Seeds has represented several operators in Ohio state and federal courts defending leasehold interests in matters involving held-by-production/ operations challenges, royalty disputes, quiet-title, mortgage foreclosure, state and federal tax lien foreclosure, lease forfeiture, pipeline easement condemnation, and various contractual disputes with landowners. His litigation experience covers Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia.
Before beginning his civilian career, Mr. Seeds served in the U.S. Marine Corps as an officer and judge advocate, defending service members charged with criminal offenses under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. He was stationed at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center, Twentynine Palms, California.
