Executive Summary

Jonathan Dye is a partner at Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti LLP. Selected as one of leading employment lawyers in Canada by Lexpert, Best Lawyers, Martindale-Hubbell, and LawDay magazine, he primarily litigates and advises clients on a range of issues such as wrongful dismissals, workplace human rights, employment standards, recruitment and dismissals, employment contracts and employment issues in corporate transactions. He has appeared as lead counsel in cases before the Ontario Court of Appeal, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and Divisional Court, the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, the Ontario Labour Relations Board and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal.

Jonathan served for several years on the executive of the Labour and Employment Law section of the Ontario Bar Association, including as Chair of the section in 2008-2010, and is a Fellow of the Centre for International Legal Studies, based in Salzburg, Austria.

Jonathan is the author of the Employment Law chapter of the Ultimate Corporate Counsel Guide, published by CCH and the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association, Labor and Employment Law in Canada, Chapter 3 of International Labor and Employment Law, published by the American Bar Association, and the Canadian chapter of Non-Compete Clauses: An International Guide, published by Ius Laboris. An accomplished speaker, Jonathan has chaired and lectured at a variety of employment law and workplace human rights conferences directed both to businesses and fellow lawyers. He has been a guest instructor at the Schulich School of Business at York University and the School of Business Management at Ryerson University, has appeared on CTV discussing workplace issues, and has been repeatedly quoted in the The Globe and Mail Report on Business, The Financial Post, Canadian Business Magazine, Business Insurance and other news publications. He also taught Employment Law at Humber College as part of the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation program and has written dozens of articles for legal publications and journals.

Jonathan’s academic accomplishments prior to commencing his practice include a variety of awards from the University of Windsor, including the CAW Labour Law Prize, the Bryan Memorial Bursary (MBA), the Hewlett-Packard (Canada) Ltd. Award (MBA), the Harold G. Fox Bursary (Law), the Dean’s List and President’s Roll, and ranking among the top ten students in both the MBA and LLB programs.
