Biography

Jonathon Ibarra is Senior Counsel in the Chicago, Illinois office of Wood Smith Henning & Berman, LLP. His practice centers on complex civil litigation with a particular emphasis on cybersecurity, data privacy, BIPA, and class actions, including breach response, statutory compliance, and matters arising under the Biometric Information Privacy Act. He regularly represents businesses in high-stakes disputes involving breach of contract, contract interpretation, copyright infringement, and trademark infringement, while also defending high-exposure injury and death cases across a range of industries.

Jonathon advises clients and insurers on early case evaluation, risk transfer, and litigation strategy, with a focus on dispositive strategy and MSJ framing to position matters for early resolution. He has significant experience handling cases involving negligent security, third-party criminal acts, and multi-party liability allocation, and routinely defends transportation, product liability, construction, and premises liability claims in both state and federal courts. His practice reflects a balance of technical statutory litigation and high-exposure tort defense, allowing him to deliver practical, business-oriented solutions aligned with client and insurer objectives.

Prior to joining WSHB, Jonathon served as an Assistant Attorney General for the Illinois Attorney General’s Office. He earned his undergraduate degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2009), where he studied political science and sociology, and his law degree from Northern Illinois University College of Law (2012).
