Joseph G. Couvreur has a law practice focused on the various legal needs including that of municipal, non-profit and for-profit entities. He has provided legal representation to:

Joseph G. Couvreur has 28 years of experience working with boards and commissions. He works closely with elected and appointed officials and employees. He assists clients in developing strategies to insure the organization is operating within the parameters of law and advancing the mission of the organization. He attends and assist in the conducting of board meetings. He is knowledgeable in the open meetings act, the freedom of information act and other legislation applicable to Municipal Entities.

He has conducted investigations and when necessary has worked closely with law enforcement officials. Joseph G. Couvreur was prosecutor for two cities earlier in his career. He negotiates many types of contracts and has worked with bond counsel for financing of buildings and equipment. He has a philosophy to resolve problems and stay focused on furthering the mission of the client. In the event disputes cannot be resolved internally, he works with the client to develop a strategy to resolve the matter which may as a last resort involve litigation.

Joseph G. Couvreur is a lifelong Downriver resident, residing most of his life in Allen Park. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in Public Policy Analysis from Wayne State University. He graduated from Wayne State Law school in 1988 and was admitted to practice in state and federal courts the same year. He served on the Board of Directors of the Free Legal Aid Clinic while in law school. He was the President of Grateful Home in Detroit, a shelter for battered woman and their children which is now operated by the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries.
