Biography

Joseph G. Shannonhouse, IV has practiced law in Oklahoma City since 1970. He was a member of Andrew Davis Law Firm from 1972 until 1996, when he began his solo practice. Mr. Shannonhouse's practice is concentrated in the areas of civil and criminal state and federal tax controversies and federal criminal defense. He is listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers under the area of taxation. Mr. Shannonhouse has extensive experience handling administrative cases within the Internal Revenue Service, including individual, partnership and corporate examinations, collection activity, penalties, appeals injunctions and tax shelters. He handles and tries cases before the U.S. Tax Court and U.S. District Courts. Mr. Shannonhouse has appealed cases to the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. He also regularly represents taxpayers before the Oklahoma Tax Commission at the administrative level, in Oklahoma County District Court and before the Oklahoma Supreme Court. Mr. Shannonhouse is a member of the Oklahoma and Oklahoma County Bar Associations and the Federal Bar Association. He earned his B.S. degree in accounting from Central State College; his J.D. degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law and his LL.M. degree in taxation from New York University School of Law. Mr. Shannonhouse's publications include "Basic Tax for the Landman," Landman's Handbook on Basic Land Management, 1978; "The Money Laundering Control Act: An Attack on the Business Side of Organized Crime," The Oklahoma Bar Journal, 1988; "New Federal Legislation May Be a Trap for the Unwary," Oklahoma Business, 1988; and "Attorney, Accounts and Clients: Roles in a Criminal Tax Fraud Investigation," The Oklahoma Bar Journal, 1991
