Biography

Brent began his legal career in the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Criminal Division, where he served as lead prosecutor in approximately 500 bench trials and numerous jury trials over a five-year period. His success at trial led him to the highest levels in the Illinois justice system, including arguing two cases before the Illinois Supreme Court.

Brent left the Cook County prosecutor’s office to become a named partner at the Chicago-based firm of Fumagali, Tecson, Hyman & Brent, Ltd. He focused his trial practice on personal injury and class action cases before relocating to California in 2000. Brent joined a leading boutique trial firm in San Francisco, and in 2006 left and started his own practice. In 2009, he and David Fiol established this firm.

Joseph P. Brent received his BA in History with Honors from Macalester College (St. Paul, MN) in 1983 and graduated from the IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law (Chicago, IL) with his JD in 1988.
