Biography

Julie R. Canter brings nearly 20 years of courtroom experience to her practice, representing clients in family law, criminal defense, and personal injury matters. As a Tennessee native, Julie has litigated extensively across East Tennessee in both State and Federal courts, trying over 50 jury trials and hundreds of bench trials. Her early career as a prosecutor included a 13-year tenure as a Division Head for Criminal Court, where she focused on cases involving violent crimes, including child and animal abuse, sex crimes, and homicide. This experience has shaped her client-centered approach and commitment to compassionate, assertive representation.

Licensed in all Tennessee State Courts and the United States Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee, Julie was appointed as interim General Sessions and Juvenile Court Judge for Johnson County in 2023. During her time on the bench, she presided over criminal and civil cases, orders of protection, and search warrants, further honing her judicial insight. Returning to private practice in 2024, Julie’s dedication to each client and readiness to assist beyond standard hours reflect her commitment to achieving favorable outcomes.
