Biography

Keith Karnes is an experienced litigator who leverages his background in criminal law to zealously represent his family law clients.

Keith began his legal career as a Deputy District Attorney for Colorado’s 11th Judicial District, where he notably prosecuted assault cases between inmates within the Department of Corrections in Canon City. He also served as a prosecutor for the People of Pueblo County, where he earned a reputation for resolving cases through alternative means, such as inpatient treatment and diversion programs. Keith completed approximately 50 criminal jury trials and hundreds of evidentiary hearings during his tenure.

Keith entered private practice in 2021, honing his criminal defense and family law experience. He has defended clients against a diverse range of criminal charges, demonstrating his capability to provide comprehensive representation in domestic relations matters. As a family law attorney, his practice spans contested and uncontested divorces, parenting time and decision-making disputes, parental abductions, contempt actions, child support, and post-decree modifications.

Clients working with Keith can expect to receive a passionate legal representative who will work tirelessly to ensure each client receives a just and favorable outcome.

Representative matters:

Motion to restrict parenting time – Convinced court to change parental responsibilities, recognize client as custodial parent, and reduce opposing party’s parenting time to supervised visitation.

Motion for contempt of court – Obtained make-up parenting time and attorney fees by filing contempt of court action against parent for withholding parenting time.

Allocation of parental responsibilities – Obtained joint decision-making and split parenting time schedule for client despite aggressive legal challenges from opposing party
