Biography

Kristina Schlake represents the interest of employers’ and workers’ compensation carriers in various workers’ compensation matters. She writes submission letters, proposed awards, appellate briefs, and seminar materials. She also conducts research and drafts memoranda on complex legal issues.

Ms. Schlake obtained her undergraduate degree in American Studies from Saint Louis University. Upon graduation, Ms. Schlake joined Teach For America, a national teacher corps of college graduates and professionals who commit to teach for two years and raise student achievement in public schools. During this time Ms. Schlake taught middle school special education in Phoenix, Arizona, and obtained her Masters Degree in Special Education from Arizona State University. After devoting three years to teaching, Ms. Schlake subsequently obtained her Juris Doctor from the University Of Missouri Kansas City School Of Law.

While attending UMKC Law, Ms. Schlake was a Comment Editor for the UMKC Law Review, Senior Study Group Leader for incoming law students, and a member of the Moot Court Board as well as a member of the National Moot Court Team. During the regional Moot Court competition, Ms. Schlake’s team was recognized as writing the best over-all brief. She also served as a Research Assistant for Professor Daniel Weddle, and assisted in the development of the Academic Enrichment Program for incoming first year law students.

Additionally during law school, Ms. Schlake served as an intern for United States Magistrate Judge Sarah W. Hays. She also worked as a student intern with the Jackson County, Missouri Public Defenders Office where she assisted in the representation of indigent defendants in various criminal matters. Ms. Schlake earned the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Criminal Law.

Ms. Schlake currently lives in Prairie Village, Kansas and enjoys traveling, running, and spending time with family and friends.
