Biography

Lars Mead joined Coughlin & Gerhart, LLP in 2003 and is a partner with the firm. He is the Chair of the Firm’s Labor and Employment Practice Group as well as the Chair of the Firm’s Recruitment Committee. Lar’s practice includes employment related litigation, with an emphasis on municipal liability, including police and fire disability and retirement claims, labor negotiations, employer-employee relations, human resource guidance, workers’ compensation and social security claims.

Lars has argued labor-related matters before the Appellate Divisions in the Second, Third, and Fourth Departments, the New York State Court of Appeals, and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. He has represented employers in a wide variety of Labor related matters including improper practice charges before the New York State Public Employment Relations Board, contractual grievances, disciplinary matters, and defended various discrimination claims, including Workers’ Compensation, EEOC and New York State Division of Human Rights complaints. He is a frequent speaker at labor and employment related seminars on new developments in labor and employment law.

Prior to joining the firm, Lars was the Director of the Youth Courts of Broome County. Lars is a member of the Broome County and New York State Bar Associations. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of HCA (Helping Celebrate Abilities) and is a past President of the organization. HCA provides educational and residential services to developmentally challenged persons of all ages. In his spare time, he has competed in more than 50 triathlons including three Ironman triathlons, Escape from Alcatraz, and many other endurance races.
