Biography

Attorney Mani Khavajian enrolled in law school with the intention of becoming an Immigration and Criminal Defense Attorney. In 2012 he founded KI Law, a law firm focused on Criminal Defense and Immigration Law. Today, Mr. Khavajian is recognized as a qualified expert in the areas of Crimmigration and Immigration Law by Michigan's crliminal courts. In 2023, his article entitle Banishment From The Kingdom was published in the September issue of the Michigan Bar Journal. Banishment From The Kingdom focused on the constitutional duty bestowed onto criminal defense attorneys to warn their non-citizen clients about the risk of deportation triggered by a plea and how defense counsels failure to warn amounts to ineffective assistance of counsel, allowing the conviction to be vacated on constitutional grounds.

Mr. Khavajian obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and went on to receive his doctorate degree from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. Mr. Khavajian gained exposure to the area of immigration law as the research assistant for Immigration Law Professor David C. Koelsch (Judge Koelsch). As a law student, Mr. Khavajian received the prestigious Book Award for his exceptional performance in the Asylum Law Clinic.

With a focus on the areas of Criminal Defense and Immigration Law, Mr. Khavajian fights for freedom and liberty on a daily basis. Growing up as an immigrant in the U.S. has given him a unique understanding of the problems many immigrants face in the U.S. Mr. Khavajian's unique immigrant upbringing and prospective has allowed him the opportunity to develop creative legal solutions to many problems that plague our communities.
