Biography

(also known as Margery Tibbetts-Wakefield, Marge Tibbetts-Wakefield, Marge Wakefield)

Attorney Margery Wakefield came to family law after many years of complicated, varied legal experience. A natural problem solver with extensive courtroom room experience, Margery is passionate about helping clients navigate through the stress of divorce and get the best result possible.

With almost three decades of experience under her belt, Margery is an unfazed and passionate presence in the courtroom. She primarily works in the areas of divorce, child custody and support, and helping children as a Guardian ad Litem.

Margery is thorough and compassionate, always going above and beyond to get the best possible outcome. However, she will never give her clients false hope, or an unclear picture of their case. Through an honest, hard-working style, she protects her clients and realistically prepares them for the future.

Her career started in 1989, where she was employed with Brennan Steil SC in Janesville. There, she focused on civil litigation, personal injury, commercial, and insurance defense. During that time, she handled multi-million dollar cases and honed her skills advocating for clients. In 2013, she transitioned into family law, starting her own firm before coming to Sterling Law Offices.

Beyond her work as an attorney, Margery has taken many positions to actively help those in need in the community. From 2014, she has served on the Family Services Board, which runs the Beloit Domestic Abuse Society, Rock and Green County sexual assault recovery services, youth to youth programs, credit counseling, and mental health services. Additionally, she spent time serving on the executive committee for the Southwest Workforce Development Board.

Margery graduated from Indiana University in 1985, majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in Business. While in the criminal justice program, she felt a spark for law and went on to law school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Margery lives with her husband in Janesville and has children and step-children all over the country: Phoenix, Chicago, North Carolina, Alabama, and one closer to home in Madison. Additionally, she has been a youth lacrosse coach for over 13 years.

When not involved in her work, coaching, or one of her many other duties, she often goes out to enjoy the magic of nature that Wisconsin has on offer. Each winter, she travels up to climb waterfalls and snowshoe. She also has an active group of friends around town and often goes to local events, watches sports, hikes, and chats to the locals.
