Mariel L. Belanger

Mariel L. Belanger is an experienced civil litigator with a broad practice in both state and federal courts. She represents clients across a variety of industries in commercial litigation matters, including contract disputes, unfair competition, trade secrets, and employee mobility issues. Mariel also defends employers in employment-related cases, handling claims of workplace discrimination, harassment, whistleblower retaliation, unequal pay, and wage violations, among others, both in court and before administrative agencies.

In addition to her litigation work, Mariel provides counsel to employers on a range of personnel matters, including employee discipline and termination, separation agreements, non-compete provisions, and the drafting and review of employee policies and handbooks.

Mariel regularly conducts independent fact-finding investigations for clients facing a variety of workplace issues, such as sexual harassment, employee misconduct, and whistleblower claims involving fraud and corruption. She also assists clients with investigations initiated by state and federal agencies.

Her practice extends to representing higher education institutions in matters involving students, faculty, and staff, including investigating Title IX complaints and defending against Title IX claims. Before entering private practice, Mariel clerked for the Honorable Katharine S. Hayden, United States District Judge for the District of New Jersey, during the 2011-2012 term. She earned her J.D. magna cum laude from Seton Hall University School of Law, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Seton Hall Law Review, was a member of the Interscholastic Moot Court Board, and was recognized as a Distinguished Scholar.
