After graduating from the State University of New York at Albany and receiving his Juris Doctor from Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in 1983, Mark J. Goldsmith was admitted to practice as attorney before the Courts of the State of New York on February 8, 1984. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts of the Eastern, Southern, and Northern Districts of New York and the U.S. Federal Court of Claims in Washington, D.C.
He began his career as a commercial litigator and then as a negligence trial lawyer for the law firm of Siben & Siben in Bay Shore, New York. In 1988, he founded the law firm of Jakubowski, Robertson & Goldsmith, engaging in the general practice of law with an emphasis on negligence and commercial matters as a trial attorney as well as commercial and residential transactional matters.
He has been involved in the following professional organizations:
• Suffolk County Bar Association
• New York State Bar Association, including the Insurance and Negligence Attorneys Section
• Suffolk County Retired Detectives Association, as the organizing attorney and counsel
Mr. Goldsmith serves as general counsel to several local, respected, and well-known businesses. For example, he serves as counsel to the Watermill Caterers in Smithtown and Cancos Tile Corporation with showrooms throughout the Metropolitan area and New Jersey. He regularly appears and practices in the specialized commercial claims parts of the State Supreme Court. He has been appointed as Receiver and Referee in numerous matters by various Suffolk County Supreme Court judges. He has earned an AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rating by Martindale-Hubbell®, the highest rating available for skill and ethics based on the opinions of his peers and the judiciary.
Mr. Goldsmith is and has been a basketball coach for St. Mary’s CYO in East Islip and a longtime coach for the East Islip Soccer Club. His family belongs to the congregation of B’nai Israel Reform Temple in Oakdale, New York. A longtime East Islip resident, he continues to live there with his wife and four sons.
