Biography

Mark joined Coughlin & Gerhart, LLP in 1980 and served as its managing partner from 2004 to 2022. Mark's practice is concentrated in the area of commercial law, commercial finance transactions, municipal & education law, public sector labor law, and creditor bankruptcy matters. He is experienced in complex commercial financing, including participation and syndication loans. He served on the Appellate Division Third Department Attorney Grievance Committee for six years, including as its Chair. He has served as a mediator for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Norther District of New York and as an arbitrator for the Sixth Judicial District of New York. He is a frequent lecturer on ethical standards for the Broome County Bar Association Continuing Legal Education Program. Mark has been selected to the Upstate New York Super Lawyers list since 2011. He has also been selected for inclusion in the Best Lawyers in America since 2012 in the areas of Commercial Transactions/UCC Law, Municipal Law, Education Law, Bankruptcy & Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency & Reorganization Law, and Business Organizations (including LLCs and Partnerships).

Mark is the past President of the Broome County Bar Association and a past chair of the New York Conference of Bar Leaders. He has served as a Delegate to the New York Bar House of Delegates, representing the Broome County Bar Association, and as a Vice President for the Sixth Judicial District. He is the past-chair of the State Bar Audit Committee. He currently serves as the President of the Board of Trustees for the Roberson Museum and is the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation of South Central New York. He has been selected for numerous community leadership roles, including those with Broome Leadership Institute, Community Hunger Outreach and the United Way. Mark was also selected by the U.S. Youth Soccer Association as East Coast Region 1 Boys Coach of the Year for 2005 and was one of the four finalists for National Boys Coach of the Year in 2005.
