Criminal defense attorney Mark Thompson has been practicing criminal law in Iowa City since 2004. He has personally handled over two thousand local criminal cases with the Johnson County Attorney’s Office and surrounding jurisdictions. He previously served as a judicial magistrate for a period of over 7 years, which gave him exceptional insight and experience in Iowa criminal law procedure. Our specialized, boutique practice is focused only on criminal defense, with an emphasis on OWI / DUI / Operating While Intoxicated cases. We do not practice any other areas of law, which allows us to be as focused as possible on your case. ABOUT MARK Mark attended the University of Iowa as an undergraduate before enrolling in Luther College, in Decorah, Iowa.  He graduated with a B.A. in computer science. He was accepted at the University of Iowa College of Law in 2000, then ranked among the nation’s top 10% of all law schools. He deferred enrollment for one year, and began studying law in 2001. He also studied law at Oxford University in England. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law in May of 2004. After working for a law firm for one year, he decided to start his own practice. In addition to his private practice, Mark has handled hundreds of criminal and juvenile cases on a contract basis through the Iowa State Public Defender's Office.  Mark served as defense counsel with the Johnson County Drug Treatment Court for roughly 8 years, and subsequently served as a Judicial Magistrate for the Sixth Judicial District for over 7 years. Now he focuses solely on his private criminal law practice.
