Biography

Ms. Martha L. Carpenter’s diverse commercial experience includes work for large firms in California, counsel to public bond issuers in New Mexico, and business advice and contract drafting for small and large businesses throughout New Mexico.

After her first year of practice revealed a strong interest in the intersection of patent law and biotechnology, Ms. Carpenter, a Stanford Law School graduate, shifted from litigation to transactional work. Firms, from startups to large companies, sought her expertise in navigating pharmaceutical and medical device approval processes, negotiating settlement and license agreements related to patent and other intellectual property disputes, safeguarding intellectual property rights, and preparing business plans for equity funding. Working across diverse sectors, including life sciences, semiconductors, technology, wireless, and entertainment media, in Silicon Valley and San Diego in the 1990s and early 2000s provided an unmatched experience.

Ms. Carpenter moved to rural New Mexico for personal reasons 20 years ago. She became a member of the New Mexico Bar in Spring 2019 and has since represented individuals and companies across a range of legal matters. In addition to owning her own firm, she has operated two businesses, including a technology company, which has given her insight into the needs of business owners.

She has extensive experience developing and implementing creative business solutions for unique situations and problems
