Biography

As the founding attorney at Haxel Law, Martin Haxel has built a reputation over more than thirty years of practicing law in Illinois. He grew up without a family legacy in the legal profession, financing his own education at Southern Illinois University–Edwardsville by working in an Alton factory and maintaining cemetery grounds. While earning his J.D. from Saint Louis University Law in St. Louis, he gained practical experience bartending and conducting legal research for a local firm. After graduation he served with the Illinois Attorney General’s office in Springfield, where he has remained, raising three children alongside his wife of over thirty-five years, Laurie. Known for his tenacious advocacy against insurance companies, Martin has secured landmark settlements—including a $1.3 million policy-limit award for a motorcyclist—and is always ready to take cases to trial. When he’s not in the courtroom, Martin plays weekly senior league hockey, cheers on the St. Louis Cardinals and Blues, cycles the Sangamon Valley Trail, or enjoys boating on Lake Springfield.
