Biography

Mary Malone is a director in the firm and a healthcare attorney. Her practice focuses on the corporate, administrative, regulatory and transactional aspects of healthcare law and involves representation of hospitals, long term care facilities, physicians, specialty practices, clinics, home health agencies, durable medical equipment suppliers, and other healthcare providers. Ms. Malone has been recognized in her field by The Presidential Who's Who Among Business and Professional Achievers, Virginia Super Lawyers, Influential Women of Virginia, and Virginia's Legal Elite.

Ms. Malone regularly advises clients on various healthcare-related issues including patient transfer laws; fraud and abuse; laws affecting tax exempt entities; government investigations; hospital-physician alignment issues; provider billing and reimbursement; medical records issues; employment, physician recruitment, and medical services contracting; corporate compliance; and risk management.

Ms. Malone has assisted many healthcare providers, including hospitals, nursing homes and physician practices with creation and ongoing implementation of compliance programs. In addition, she regularly advises clients in response to EMTALA and other types of government surveys or investigations, including assistance with preparation of plans of correction. Ms. Malone also has worked with healthcare providers in handling both internal investigations and government investigations of Medicare and Medicaid billing issues and other compliance issues. She also assists clients undergoing fraud and abuse investigations.

Ms. Malone writes and speaks frequently on a variety of healthcare topics. She works with clients in connection with the development of educational and training programs for healthcare providers and often conducts in-service training programs for healthcare providers' staff members. Ms. Malone also participates in presentations for a number of healthcare-related professional associations such as the American Health Lawyers Association, and the Healthcare Financial Management Association.

Ms. Malone earned her B.A. from the University of Richmond and her J.D. from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond where she was a member of the National Moot Court Team and the University of Richmond Law Review.
