Biography

Matthew C. Shapiro is a seasoned attorney concentrating in wills, trusts, estates, and civil litigation. Mr. Shapiro graduated with honors from Florida International University, ranking in the top ten of his class. His distinguished academic background laid a strong foundation for his legal career, where he has consistently demonstrated expertise and excellence.

During his career, Mr. Shapiro has provided comprehensive estate planning services to thousands of clients, expertly drafting crucial documents such as revocable living trusts of varying complexities, wills, powers of attorney, health care surrogates, living wills, enhanced life estate deeds, trust amendments, and codicils.

Having served as the lead or sole attorney for hundreds of Florida probate cases, Mr. Shapiro has expertly navigated both uncontested and contested probates. His extensive experience includes handling formal, summary, and ancillary administrations. He has resolved complex probate disputes such as will contests, capacity challenges, breaches of fiduciary duty, conflicts between surviving spouses and children from previous marriages, elective share calculations, homestead rights, fee disputes, and beneficiary rights.

In addition to his probate work, Mr. Shapiro has managed the administration of numerous trusts, overseeing complex trust matters and litigating numerous trust disputes. He has also served in various court-appointed roles, including curator, personal representative, guardian ad litem, and attorney ad litem, demonstrating his versatility and knowledge.

A lifelong resident of Volusia County, born and raised in Ormond Beach, Mr. Shapiro is a dedicated community member. He currently serves on the Ormond Beach Neighborhood Improvement Advisory Board and is the president of the Dunn-Blount Inn of American Inns of Court. His leadership extends to previous roles, including President of the Volusia County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division, general counsel for the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce and the Volusia Young Professionals Group, and director for the Volusia County Bar Association.
