Biography

Matt Douglas is an experienced litigator and trial lawyer with a focus on environmental, toxic tort and product liability matters, with deep experience in the energy, manufacturing, and pharmaceutical sectors. He handles toxic tort litigation, CERCLA litigation and remediation, tort claims against nuclear facilities under the Price Anderson Act (PAA), water contamination cases involving PFAS and other contaminants, Natural Resource Damages (NRD) claims, and Clean Water Act (CWA) enforcement. Matt also defends pharmaceutical companies in product liability mass torts in state and federal courts, and has handled consumer class actions and commercial disputes.

Matt has served as lead trial counsel in numerous cases and courts across Colorado and many other jurisdictions. His environmental work spans the full lifecycle of contaminated site and accidental release disputes, from initial site response and investigations, enforcement actions, and contribution claims, to defending individual and class action cases claims of increased risks and health effects and impacts on property values, and defending governmental claims of damages to natural resources. On the product liability side, he has defended nationwide mass tort litigation, including multiple trials, and has defeated class certification in consumer fraud cases.

Matt began his career at a small litigation firm with a role primarily focused on courtroom and trial responsibilities in a wide variety of general civil litigation and criminal matters. Over time Matt’s practice developed into the defense of companies in large, complex, and often science-driven litigation and trial work. He served as pro bono trial counsel for protesters injured by police during the George Floyd protests in Denver, which resulted in a $14 million verdict against the City of Denver.

Matt has been recognized by Lawdragon as one of the 500 Leading Litigators in America, was named a “Top Litigator” by Law Week Colorado, and was selected as a “Litigator of the Week” by The American Lawyer.
