Professional Interests

Matthew Shupe’s first-rate brief writing has resulted in great success for Balin Law’s clients at the Appeals Council and Federal Court levels, helping to create good legal precedents for the disabled. In 2013, Matthew became the Managing Attorney of our thriving Appellate Advocacy Group. He frequently meets with new clients at many of the firm’s Ohio offices and represents mentally and physically impaired clients at Social Security administrative hearings.

Matthew conducts speaking engagements at the offices of medical professionals throughout Ohio to discuss ways to better advocate for his clients.

Civic Involvement

Matthew is a founding member of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association’s Social Security & Disability Section where he has served as an officer since 2017. In 2020, Matthew joined the Board of Directors of Ravenwood Health in Chardon, Ohio. Matthew also interviews law students preparing to sit for the Ohio bar exam as a member of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association’s Bar Admissions Committee.

Matthew is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education seminars organized by the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association and the Ohio Association for Justice. He has spoken on panels regarding federal court litigation, lobbied on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. for the rights of the disabled, and appeared on TV and radio to discuss current issues in disability law.

Matthew is passionate about mental health, music, the outdoors, and Sci-Fi, and will spend hours talking about these topics. He is a Taurus through and through.

Honors & Awards

Matthew is a top-rated Social Security Disability attorney and has been recognized as a Super Lawyer every year consecutively since 2015. This award is granted to no more than 2.5 percent of attorneys in each state for those who are under the age of 40 or have been in practice for less than 10 years.
