His efforts earned him a Municipal Affairs Award from the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, as well as numerous awards directly from the City of New York.

From early in his career, Matt understood the importance of teaching other attorneys. Because of his knowledge and abilities, he was asked to train other city attorneys in handling police abuse and special duty cases which often involve volatile, complicated, and difficult legal issues. His trial skills were also recognized as Matt was often asked to train other City attorneys on all matters of trial strategy and procedure involved in defending the City of New York at trial.

In the area of serious injury, Matt represents clients with injuries such as brain injury, spinal and neck injuries, fractures, and ruptured ligaments and tendons, as well as the families of deceased loved ones. He has particular experience with complex liability or damages questions, and has effectively represented clients in cases involving police officers injured or killed due to unsafe conditions or equipment; roadways that are unsafe due to improper design, signage or control; products liability; unsafe occupational or environmental injuries and exposures; mass torts and class actions; unsafe drugs; and civil rights violations.
