Biography

Max Davis is the senior member of Davis, Hatley, Haffeman, & Tighe, PC. Mr. Davis focuses his practice on a wide spectrum of civil litigation, primarily for defendants, including professional and products liability defense, employment claims, environmental and toxic torts, commercial and business disputes, as well as the defense of insureds, self-insureds and insurers. Mr. Davis serves as the State of Montana's primary outside counsel in the defense of tort claims filed in central Montana. He has tried over 75 cases to verdict in federal and state courts throughout Montana and has argued appeals before the Montana Supreme Court, the Blackfeet Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. According to Chambers USA, Mr. Davis “is recommended for ‘his practical approach to cases and efficiency and effectiveness in court.’” He is also named as a Local Litigation Star in Benchmark Litigation and has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for 15 years and in Rocky Mountain Super Lawyers every year of its publication. In 2006, he served as a faculty member at the IADC's Trial Academy at Stanford University.
Mr. Davis also devotes significant time to an active transactional and business consulting practice. He serves as counsel to the Diocese of Great Falls, the Montana Electric Cooperatives Association and numerous electric cooperatives throughout the state.
