Mckenzie L. Nelson

Prior to joining MCB, McKenzie worked as an Immigration Staff Attorney at Bronx Works, a non-profit organization providing a broad range of social services to borough residents. There, she represented and advocated for clients on immigration matters before United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Specific responsibilities included conducting legal research; analyzing eligibility for immigration benefits; drafting legal documents including motions and affidavits; preparing application packages for submission to USCIS; and maintaining client files and data. In addition to her legal work, she supervised a team of three paralegals.

Earlier in her career, McKenzie served as a paralegal at a small criminal defense firm in the New York area. There, she drafted filed legal documents; conducted legal research; communicated with clients, district attorneys, and the courts; and coordinated court appearances. Previous to this position, she served in roles as a Clinic Student and Immigration Extern, garnering essential research, draftsmanship, case management, and advocacy skills.

McKenzie earned her B.A. from the University of Utah in 2018, where she made the Dean’s List multiple times and received a pre-law certificate. She earned her J.D. from New York Law School in 2022, graduating with honors that included the Dean’s Leadership Council, a Trustee Scholarship, a Full Tuition Merit Scholarship, and placement on the Dean’s List. McKenzie is admitted to practice in New York.
