Biography

Melissa Berouty is a Litigator at Phillips & Associates, representing clients ranging from minimum-wage workers to high-level executives across diverse industries. She is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia, and is a member of both the Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.

Since joining the firm, Melissa has been part of litigation teams that have achieved notable results, including:

$5,250,000 settlement for a big law equity partner in a case involving quid pro quo sexual harassment, whistleblower retaliation, and tortious interference.

$2,100,000 settlement for a financial executive who was terminated after raising concerns about misrepresentations to the federal government.

$1,300,000 settlement for an HR executive who was terminated after reporting discriminatory hiring practices.

Prior to joining the firm, Melissa served as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Lara K. DiFabrizio, where she gained valuable insight into the judicial process and drafted judicial orders and opinions.

Melissa earned her J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law, where she served as Managing Editor of News for the Journal of Global Rights and Organizations. During law school, she developed her passion for employment law while completing her fellowship at Harvard Law’s Labor and Work Life Program. There, she collaborated with a coalition of Attorneys General focused on workers’ rights and researched OSHA standards, as applied to various industries’ working conditions. This research has been featured by the DPCC, NPR, NBC, and CNN.

Before entering the legal field, Melissa was both an NCAA Division I athlete and coach. Among other sports-related honors, she was named an NFCA Academic All-American, her University’s Athletics’ Woman of the Year, and was nominated for the NCAA’s Woman of the Year award.
