Mia Munro is a dedicated employment attorney based in Los Angeles,
specializing in protecting the civil rights of employees in the
workplace. With a strong focus on state and federal civil rights
laws, Mia passionately advocates for her clients in cases involving
anti-discrimination, anti-harassment, whistleblower, and wage and
hour laws.
Mia's
legal journey began with outstanding achievements during her
undergraduate years, earning a bachelor's degree in Political Science
with honors from the University of Pennsylvania. Recognized for her
potential, Mia was selected to work as a paralegal at the U.S.
Attorney's office in Manhattan, New York, through the U.S. Department
of Justice's Outstanding Scholars Program. Her valuable contributions
to multiple trials exposed and fought against the exploitation of
civilians by organized crime groups. Notably, Mia played a pivotal
role in a trial that prosecuted a human trafficking ring responsible
for enslaving numerous undocumented women from South Korea.
Following
her tenure at the U.S. Attorney's Office, Mia pursued her legal
education at New York University School of Law, where she graduated
with honors. During this period, she concentrated on civil rights and
served as the Co-Director of the Suspension Representation Project,
an initiative aimed at preventing the unwarranted suspensions of
inner-city public school children in New York. Mia also worked as a
Student Advocate at the New York Civil Liberties Union, vigorously
opposing the unconstitutional use of excessive force by police
against a child in a public school.
While
at NYU Law, Mia interned at esteemed non-profit organizations such as
Lawyers for Equal Justice and the Legal Aid Society Employment Law
Center (now Legal Aid at Work), actively contributing to civil rights
impact litigation. Additionally, she held an editorial position at
the NYU Law Review of Law and Social Change, further honing her legal
acumen.
Mia's
dedication to fighting for civil rights led her to be chosen for a
fellowship at Equal Rights Advocates, a San Francisco-based
organization focused on women's rights litigation. During her
two-year fellowship, she staunchly represented women and caregivers
who had faced workplace discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
Mia actively worked towards legislative and regulatory changes to
enhance protections for pregnant workers and caregivers in the
workplace. Notably, she co-authored a white paper report that has
since supported legislation across various regions. Moreover, Mia
ardently advocated for the employment rights of formerly incarcerated
women.
Relocating
to Los Angeles in 2013, Mia has since dedicated her practice
exclusively to representing employees and enforcing their rights
under state and federal civil rights laws. She has developed
expertise in handling cases related to anti-discrimination,
anti-harassment, whistleblower, and wage and hour laws.
Mia's
outstanding achievements have garnered recognition, including being
named a Rising Star Honoree by Southern California Super Lawyers from
2020 to 2022. She serves on the Board of Governors at the Women
Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, co-chairing the Labor &
Employment committee. Mia also actively participates in the
Legislative Committee of the California Employment Lawyers
Association (CELA) and volunteers as an attorney at Legal Aid at
Work's Workers Rights Clinic.
A
dedicated mentor, Mia extends her guidance to the University of
Pennsylvania and CELA. She maintains membership in prominent legal
associations, including the Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC),
the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA), and the
Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Los Angeles (APABA).
Outside
of her legal endeavors, Mia cherishes quality time with her family,
including her husband, children, and rescue pit bull. She also enjoys
returning to her hometown in Hawaii.
Mia
is admitted to practice before the California state courts and the
Central and Eastern Districts of California of the United States
District Court. Additionally, she is conversant in Spanish.

$2 million in 2022, $1.9 million in 2021, and $3.2 million in 2020,
among others.
