Biography

Mr. Diederich is a seasoned attorney with a wealth of experience, having practiced law since 1981. Throughout his career, he has appeared in state and federal courts, representing clients at both the trial and appellate levels. His accomplishments include securing favorable jury verdicts in employment law and civil rights law cases, as well as winning significant appellate cases. He has fearlessly taken on legal battles against major corporations, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to justice.

Admitted to the New York and Massachusetts bars, as well as the federal district court, the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court, Mr. Diederich possesses a solid foundation to advocate for his clients' rights effectively.

In terms of education, Mr. Diederich holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from the University of Vermont (1976), a Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Northwestern School of Law (1980), and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Environmental Law from Pace University School of Law (1992). Additionally, he has completed an Advanced Course at the Army Judge Advocate General's School (1992) and the Command & General Staff College, U.S. Army (1999).

Mr. Diederich has recently retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. He proudly served as a member of the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps, demonstrating his dedication to upholding the principles of justice. Notably, he provided legal support in Iraq (2004-2005) and Afghanistan (2012), where he was recognized for his service and awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

Mr. Diederich has successfully tried many cases, including several federal court civil rights cases to verdict, including a pregnancy discrimination trial, Blake v. Nyack ($190,000 verdict and a corrections officer brutality) and a prisoner abuse case, Anderson v. Osborne ($650,000 verdict in client’s favor).

Mr. Diederich won a widely-reported appeal at the Second Circuit Court of Appeal, Sherman v Town of Chester, 752 F3d 554 (2d Cir 2014), and has favorably influenced the U.S. Supreme Court through amicus curiae briefs in C&A Carbone, Inc. v. Town of Clarkstown, 511 U.S. 383 (1994); United Haulers Assn., Inc. v. Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Mgmt. Auth., 550 U.S. 330 (2007) and Town of Chester, N.Y. v. Laroe Estates, Inc., 137 S. Ct. 1645 (2017). Mr. Diederich has represented successfully individuals and small businessmen against state governmental administrative action (Matter of Sylvia Wright, Sup. Ct. NY Cty 2019; Matter of Executive Cleaning Services Corp. v. N.Y.S. Dept. of Labor, 3d Dept 2021).
