Biography

Michael joined the Firm in 2021. He provides legal counsel and strategic advice to healthcare and mental health care providers, human service organizations, hospitals, long-term care facilities, and other health care institutions. He has extensive experience with regulatory and accreditation issues, ethical and patient-care concerns, including confidentiality and HIPAA compliance, fraud and abuse compliance issues, reimbursement issues, multi-provider organizations, and medical staff and professional licensing matters. Michael provides advice on corporate governance, non-profit, and general business law matters, including joint ventures, acquisitions, mergers, and physician and payor contracts. He assists clients in conducting internal investigations and responding to inquiries from governmental authorities. In addition, he has substantial experience drafting legislation and regulations.

Michael has taught and lectured about health law at Providence College, Tufts University Medical School, The Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, and Boston College Law School. Prior to law school, he had a fifteen-year career providing, administering, and regulating behavioral, mental health, and substance abuse services for children, adolescents, and adults.
