Michelle C. Murtha

Michelle C. Murtha: Attorney with Weitz & Luxenberg, P.C.

Biography

To my knowledge, no other asbestos exposure and mesothelioma law firm fights as hard as Weitz & Luxenberg to see that its clients get the justice they deserve. That's because no law firm cares as deeply about its clients as Weitz & Luxenberg.

Michelle C. Murtha brings a special intensity to her role as a Weitz & Luxenberg advocate for the legal rights of the victims of corporate greed. What drives her is a belief that corporations should not escape liability for exposing innocent people to asbestos and causing them to develop mesothelioma, asbestosis or lung cancer. Ms. Murtha - who is licensed to practice law in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey - joined Weitz & Luxenberg in 2014. She started as a legal fellow and in 2015 advanced to associate attorney.

Previously, Ms. Murtha served as a law clerk to the Hon. Madelin F. Einbinder, a judge in the Family Division of Ocean County Superior Court, Toms River, New Jersey. In that capacity, Ms. Murtha often made recommendations to the judge with regard to dispositions and motions. Ms. Murtha also aided the judge in reaching tentative decisions and in other vital matters. Before that, Ms. Murtha was a legal intern in the mass tort department of Woodbridge, New Jersey, law firm Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer.

That internship coincided with the final year of her education at Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Upon graduation in 2013, Ms. Murtha received a juris doctor degree (concentration in litigation) and recognition for high academic performance (Dean's List honors, the Thomas M. Cooley Leadership Award, and the Book Award in Children and the Law).

While attending the school, Ms. Murtha also served as the Ann Arbor chapter treasurer and public relations director of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan. As well, she acted as master of ceremonies at events conducted by the Delta Theta Phi law fraternity, and gained invaluable experience in oral argumentation by participating in the IntraSchool Moot Court competition.

Ms. Murtha holds a master of governmental administration degree from the University of Pennsylvania, Fels Institute of Government. She received it in 2007. In 2005, she earned a bachelor's degree in political science and history from Douglass College of Rutgers University. There, she attained Dean's List recognition for her outstanding grades. She also was inducted into national political science honor society Pi Sigma Alpha and national history honor society Phi Alpha Theta.
