Biography

Michelle Holmes has been practicing law for over Twenty years and is a leader in representing individuals who have been discriminated against in the workplace, injured or wrongfully accused. She also provides fierce representation in the area of family law, including custody disputes, alimony and distribution of marital assets. During her tenure, she has taken numerous federal and state cases to trial and is an experienced and aggressive litigator. She has appeared in the Superior Courts across the State of Connecticut, the Supreme Court for Connecticut, and the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals. Attorney Holmes also handles administrative proceedings, including appearing before the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Unemployment Appeals, and Alternative Dispute Resolution, including Mediation and Arbitration. She has spoken on behalf of plaintiff’s civil rights before our State Legislature and was instrumental in the overhaul of the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections Sexual Harassment policies and procedures.

She is a graduate from Quinnipiac School of Law where she received high honors in the areas of Connecticut Constitutional Law, Trial Practice and Appellate Advocacy. She then clerked and worked for Attorney Karen Lee Torre, leading civil rights attorney from New Haven and Attorney Elliot Spector from West Hartford, providing Municipal Defense particularly to police officers across the State of Connecticut. The Law Office of Michelle N. Holmes has been established since 2005. Michelle Holmes has the innate ability to see the questions of law from both a plaintiff and defense perspective thereby giving her and her clients a distinct advantage in the Courts or Administrative arena. She is a true litigator and not afraid to go to trial or take matters on appeal. As result, her cases are often resolved even before trial in the most satisfactory manner for her clients.

Attorney Holmes is a Literacy Volunteer in Waterbury and United Way. She is a member of the Waterbury Bar Association, New Haven Bar Association, and previous American Inns of Court member. Michelle is a devoted mother to her Twelve year old son and consummate soccer mom.
