Biography

Alan Romero, a 2020 CAALA Trial Lawyer of the Year Finalist, is the principal and lead trial attorney at Romero Law. Mr. Romero is a seasoned and well-respected litigator who has served as a staff instructor at both the CAALA and CELA trial colleges. Mr. Romero has been rated “AV Preeminent” by Martindale-Hubbell since 2019 and has been recognized as one of the Top 500 Leading Civil Rights & Plaintiff Employment Lawyers in the United States by Lawdragon.com every year since 2020.

Some of Mr. Romero’s notable results have included a historic $8,115,000 jury verdict against the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department arising out of proven allegations of public corruption, a criminal referral to the United States Department of Justice that resulted in the criminal convictions of two Los Angels County Sheriff’s Department deputies who were engaged in racketeering on behalf of the Executioners deputy gang operating out of Compton Station, and a groundbreaking $1,000,000 jury verdict against the City of Parlier on behalf of a Police Chief who was wrongfully removed as a result of his whistleblowing against public corruption within the City.

Prior to law school, Mr. Romero interned for the Consul for Legal Affairs of the Consulate of Mexico in Los Angeles and later worked as a social worker providing services to severely disabled adults in underserved communities. After law school, Mr. Romero interned for — and was later hired by — the law firm of Mathews & Weisser. Working under the regular and direct supervision of the firm’s lead litigator, a California attorney and English barrister, Mr. Romero was exposed to a wide variety of litigation in the areas of taxation, securities law, and white-collar fraud, litigating matters pending before American and British courts.

Mr. Romero received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from California State University in Los Angeles, where he was accepted into the Early Entrance Program at the age of fifteen. Mr. Romero then went on to obtain his Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern Law School in the accelerated two-year SCALE program.

Mr. Romero is accredited as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board and as a Certified Fraud Examiner by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Mr. Romero presently serves as a Director-at-Large for both the Southwestern Law School and California State University Los Angeles Alumni Associations, and is a Chair-appointed Associate Member of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, serving as a voting member of its Judicial Interview Committee.

Natively fluent in Spanish, Mr. Romero is a fifth-generation Angeleno on his father’s side and the 15th great grandson of Aztec Emperor Moctezuma II on his mother’s side. Mr. Romero is well-known for his lifelong passion for world cinema.
