Mr. Beau M. Goodrick: Attorney with Owen, Patterson & Owen

Biography

Beau, a native of Southern California, recently returned to the area after beginning his legal career at an AmLaw 100 firm in Washington, D.C. While practicing in D.C., Beau specialized in litigation and placed a great emphasis on pro bono work. In his litigation practice, Beau represented companies in connection with the misappropriation of technology.

Beau has varied experiences through his pro bono practice. Beau played a significant role in the drafting of petition for habeas corpus for a death-row inmate in Texas convicted of murder and sentenced to death on the basis of discredited science. Beau also successfully represented a pretrial detainee suing to recover for her unconstitutional treatment while detained within the Los Angeles County Jail System in front of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals (Shorter v. Baca (9th Cir. 2018) 895 F.3d 1176). More recently, Beau drafted an asylum brief on behalf of an immigrant from El Salvador claiming asylum due to threats on his life by the MS-13 gang for disobeying gang orders to smuggle contraband into the prison where he worked.

Beau’s commitment to pro bono did not begin when he became a lawyer. While at the University of Southern California, Beau was a member of Engineers Without Borders, working with his team to design and build a running water system in La Estanzuela, Honduras. While at Emory University School of Law, Beau worked with the school’s Volunteer Clinic for Veterans and the local office of an international law firm to achieve a discharge upgrade for a veteran who was being denied medical care due to his discharge status.

It is this desire to help others that brought Beau to OPO, where he looks forward to doing his best work to assist victims of both accidents and corporate greed in recovering damages for their injuries.
