Biography

Dan Dworin is an Austin criminal defense attorney and Senior Trial Attorney at Michael & Associates Criminal Defense Attorneys. Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 2004, Mr. Dworin is among a select group of Texas attorneys who have earned certification in criminal law.

He has spent nearly three decades defending individuals accused of crimes ranging from DWI and drug offenses to serious felony allegations in both state and federal courts. Mr. Dworin focuses exclusively on criminal defense and represents clients throughout Austin, Travis County, and the surrounding region.

Before joining Michael & Associates in 2025, Mr. Dworin spent nearly 30 years in private practice representing clients in complex criminal matters throughout Texas. During his tenure at Michael & Associates, Mr. Dworin has handled more than 320 criminal matters spanning a wide range of misdemeanor and felony offenses.

His experience includes more than 100 DWI-related matters, ranging from first-offense DWI charges to repeat-offense and felony DWI prosecutions. His experience includes cases involving blood and breath testing evidence, elevated blood alcohol concentration allegations, repeat-offense DWI prosecutions, and other scientific and procedural issues commonly encountered in DWI litigation. He carefully analyzes the evidence, evaluates law enforcement conduct, and develops defense strategies tailored to the unique circumstances of each case.

He also represents clients facing assault family violence allegations, felony drug charges, unlawful weapon offenses, probation violation, and other serious misdemeanor and felony criminal matters. This broad criminal defense practice has provided him with extensive familiarity with the legal, procedural, and evidentiary issues that frequently arise in Texas criminal courts.

Mr. Dworin's professional accomplishments have earned widespread recognition within the Texas legal community. Texas Monthly has repeatedly recognized him as a Rising Star or Super Lawyer, and he has earned a perfect 10.0 "Superb" rating on Avvo. In addition to his courtroom work, he has held numerous leadership positions within prominent legal organizations, including serving as President of the Austin Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, President of the Criminal Justice Section of the Austin Bar Association, and President of the Austin Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.

His commitment to the legal profession extends beyond his practice. Mr. Dworin is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, a Founding Fellow of the Austin Bar Foundation, and remains active in numerous professional organizations dedicated to criminal justice and legal excellence. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Texas.

Mr. Dworin earned his Juris Doctor from The University of Texas School of Law in 1995 and was admitted to practice law in Texas the same year.

Drawing on nearly 30 years of criminal defense experience, Board Certification in Criminal Law, extensive trial experience, and leadership within the Texas criminal defense community, he provides strategic, experience-driven representation in high-stakes criminal cases.
