DeShawn Mitchell is a personal injury litigation attorney at the Derrick Law Firm Injury Lawyers’ Columbia, South Carolina office. DeShawn earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of South Carolina and a Juris Doctor degree from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School. While in law school, DeShawn was a member of the Moot Court Board. He is licensed to practice in South Carolina and the United States District Court, District of South Carolina.

Prior to joining the Derrick Law Firm, DeShawn was a civil defense litigator at a national products liability defense firm where his practice focused on complex litigation involving automotive product liability and toxic tort matters to include asbestos litigation. He also spent time at a well-respected regional defense firm handling insurance defense matters. Early in his career, DeShawn worked as an Assistant Attorney General at the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office representing the State of South Carolina at the circuit court level and also in appellate matters before the South Carolina Court of Appeals and Supreme Court. DeShawn is also a 2022 graduate of the South Carolina Bar Leadership Academy.

Outside of the office, DeShawn enjoys spending time with his wife, family, traveling and rooting for his Gamecocks.
