Biography

Geoffrey Sherman, a Partner of Oppenheim Law, focuses on commercial and residential real estate transactions, the acquisition and disposition of businesses entities, business entity formation, corporate governance, and commercial litigation throughout the State of Florida. Mr. Sherman’s dedication to client service and meticulous attention to detail have earned him the trust of a diverse clientele, including high-net-worth individuals and their families, developers, investors, home buyers and sellers and businesses of varying sizes.

During Mr. Sherman’s tenure at Oppenheim Law, Geoffrey gained invaluable experience across a broad spectrum of transactional and litigation matters which has allowed him to navigate the complexities of each matter that he handles.

Whether it is a first-time home purchase, a multi-million-dollar commercial development project, or complex loan negotiations, Mr. Sherman has the experience to successfully guide his clients throughout the transaction, starting with contract negotiations all the way to the closing of the real estate transaction. His broad-based real estate practice focuses on all aspects of real estate transactions, including property acquisitions, development, construction, financing, sale, and leasing of residential, mixed-use, multifamily, condominium, hotel, office, retail, and industrial properties. In addition, Mr. Sherman frequently prepares and reviews commercial lease agreements for tenants and landlords.

Throughout Mr. Sherman’s legal career, he has represented countless individuals and businesses guiding them through the legal intricacies of structuring the formation of new business entities, developing policies and procedures for operating the business, negotiating, and reviewing contracts, and eventually selling and/or acquiring other businesses. Mr. Sherman understands the challenges faced by businesses of all sizes, and offers both outside and in-house general counsel services, providing personalized ongoing legal advice and support. Mr. Sherman’s close involvement with clients provide them with advice on their business operations including vendor contract negotiations, and development of labor and employment policies and procedures, reducing the client’s potential exposure to costly litigation. Throughout Mr. Sherman’s legal career, he has represented both buyers and sellers in the purchase and sale of small and mid-size businesses, such as restaurants, insurance brokerages, retail stores, gas stations, import/export, medical practices, preschools, wholesalers as well as other industries. Having meticulous attention to detail and experience in reviewing due diligence related to asset purchase transactions allows Mr. Sherman to provide sound legal advice to clients when they are buying or selling a business.

As a seasoned commercial litigator, Mr. Sherman is adept at handling complex real estate, business, and contractual disputes. He zealously advocated for countless homeowners and borrowers during the foreclosure crisis. Mr. Sherman frequently represents clients in lawsuits related to breach of residential and commercial real estate contracts, partition actions, specific enforcement, and partnership disputes.

Geoffrey is also General Counsel to Oppenheim Law’s sister company, Weston Title and Escrow, Inc., a full-service title company that is the oldest title company in the City of Weston. Weston Title has closed more than $4 billion in real estate transactions.

In 2020, Mr. Sherman was appointed by the Florida Department of State as a Florida Remote Online Notary Public. As a Remote Online Notary Public, he performs virtual real estate closings and online notarizations throughout the world.

When not working Geoff enjoys spending his time with his wife, Allison, two daughters, Rebecca and Sabrina, and his close family and friends as well as cooking, and collecting rare bourbons.
