Biography

Ian is an experienced litigator with diverse practice areas including non-profit

law, insurance defense, employment discrimination, construction law, private

education law, sports law, and general civil litigation. He advises and defends

clients related to a variety of matters, including corporate formation and

restructuring, labor and employment issues, breach of contract and tort

claims, and appellate litigation.

Before joining Denechaud, Ian practiced in the field of insurance defense and

has defended numerous commercial, residential, and casualty insurance

claims, suits, and appeals. He has extensive experience with preparing

coverage opinions and handling subrogation claims. He also previously

served as the law clerk for the Honorable Raymond S. Steib, Jr. of the 24th

Judicial District Court.

Ian is a New Orleans native and graduate of Jesuit High School. He attended

the University of Georgia where he received a B.A. in philosophy, B.S. in

psychology, and minor in political science. He earned his law degree from

Tulane University Law School, where he received a Sports Law Certificate

and was the Editor in Chief of The Sports Lawyers Journal.

Ian is also an adjunct professor teaching sports law for the Tulane School of

Professional Advancement. He has written extensively in the field of sports

law, including his most recent academic publication: Peterson, Brady, and

Elliot: Analyzing “the Trilogy” in Light of the NFL Commissioner’s Discipline

Authority, 29, J. Legal Aspects Sport 223 (2019).

In his spare time, Ian coaches Jesuit High School’s debate team and writes

about legal issues in sports. He and his family are parishioners at St. Patrick’s

Church in New Orleans.
