Biography

Isidoro “Sid” Spano is an associate attorney who brings diverse litigation experience to Kotz Sangster, with a focused emphasis on construction and commercial litigation. Sid began his legal career in the field of medical malpractice before transitioning to commercial and construction litigation, where he has developed a strong foundation in complex litigation. His comprehensive experience in pre-trial discovery—including written discovery, depositions, motion practice, and summary disposition—makes him a valuable contributor to the firm’s construction team.

Sid’s ability to distill complex legal issues and his strategic approach to litigation have proven instrumental in advancing client interests both in and out of the courtroom. His prior work with a boutique Canadian law firm specializing in U.S. corporate and estate matters also gives him a unique cross-border perspective that enhances his legal acumen.

Sid holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree with a concentration in Marketing from the University of Windsor, and earned his law degree/Juris Doctorate from the University of Detroit Mercy. During his law school years, he was recognized as the Best Oral Advocate in his legal writing class for his successful arguments in a summary judgment motion. In his final year of law school, Sid won a mock trial during his trial practice course. He also received Dean’s List recognition in the Winter 2021 semester.

A proud Italian-Canadian, Sid was born, raised, and continues to reside in Canada. He grew up in a small farming town with strong ties to Italian culture, where family, tradition, and a strong work ethic were central to daily life. Sid grew up working for his father’s greenhouse organization where he gained firsthand experience and a deep understanding of the Canadian agricultural and fresh produce industry. These early experiences allowed Sid to bring a grounded and community-focused perspective to his practice and continue to inform his disciplined approach to law. Outside of law, Sid is an avid film enthusiast and enjoys exploring cinema, both classic and contemporary.
