Biography

As senior counsel, Jeff Meek focuses his practice on business law, trust, tax and estate planning, and asset protection. He joined MendenFreiman in 2015 and was previously a senior associate attorney at Sanders Legal Group LLC. Jeff provides comprehensive legal counsel on business, tax and estate planning matters to high-net-worth individuals and families, as well as privately held businesses.

Jeff also has experience representing businesses and business owners with the design and implementation of comprehensive business plans that integrate succession, tax minimization and asset-protection techniques. He applies his knowledge and expertise to develop customized strategies that help clients achieve their long-term business, financial and estate planning objectives.

Representative Matters

• Structured and executed a multiphase transaction for a client with real estate development, management, and holding companies that insulated high-value, unencumbered assets from contingent liabilities and ongoing business operational risks; moved ownership of all domestic entities to an offshore entity and implemented a sale of the offshore entity to an intentionally defective spendthrift trust at a combined discount of over 50%.

• Successfully prosecuted registration of a trademark on the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) principal register after an initial office action by the refusing registration based on the likelihood of confusing with existing marks.

• Implemented divisive reorganization of 13 related entities for three business partners to isolate unencumbered assets and then reorganized organization structures for all three partners through various mergers and conversions to maximize jurisdictional protections and allow for maximum operational efficiency.
