Biography

Matt Ferris is a civil litigation attorney based in the Wilmington Office.

Prior to joining Cranfill Sumner, Matt served as a law clerk to Judge Donna Stroud at the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Prior to clerking for Judge Stroud, Matt also interned for Judge John Tyson and served briefly as a clerk to Chief Judge Chris Dillon and the Office of Staff Counsel. Through his time at the Court of Appeals, having written opinions for many judges, Matt developed a thorough and unique understanding of approaching and tackling complex legal issues.

Matt graduated from Elon University School of Law in 2023. While in law school, Matt served as an Academic fellow, Co-Director of Elon Law’s Pro Bono Board, and was an active member of the Moot Court Board. Matt completed his law school residency with Judge Robert N. Hunter, Jr. (ret.) at Higgins Benjamin, PLLC, where he gained experience participating in various stages of arbitration and civil litigation. Before law school, Matt graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he studied political science, statistics, and data analytics.

In his free time, Matt enjoys long-distance running, film photography, going on walks with his dog, and spending time with his friends and family.
