Biography

Michael James Long is a Partner in the firm's West Palm Beach office and practices in the areas of general insurance defense, including automobile and premises liability.

Mr. Long earned his Bachelor of Arts and Science, Phi Beta Kappa, with a double major in German and International Studies from West Virginia University in 1990. He graduated law school from the University of Georgia in 1994. In 2013, he earned an MBA in Finance with perfect marks from the AACSB accredited program at Florida Atlantic University.

Mr. Long’s lifelong career in the property and casualty field began in 1990 when he started clerking at his brother-in-law’s personal injury law firm in Georgia. Upon graduation from law school, he moved to South Florida and began practicing in the field, rising to the level of named partner in a personal injury firm.

In his early forties, Mr. Long returned to school and earned a finance MBA at FAU. He worked for twelve years as an insurance defense attorney, including nine years as employee and staff attorney for Florida’s largest automobile insurance company. He then joined Cole Scott & Kissane as a partner.

Mr. Long has handled thousands of property and casualty cases through all aspects of civil litigation up to and including dozens of trials.
