Michael S. Hays is board-certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in the area of Personal Injury Trial Law. He focuses primarily on product liability, personal injury, general commercial litigation, insurance coverage, legal ethics and professional liability cases.
Mr. Hays graduated from North Texas State University with a B.B.A. in 1970, earning his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the South Texas College of Law in 1974. He remains active in the law school by serving as chairman of the board of directors at the South Texas College of Law and has been a guest lecturer on subjects pertaining to ethics.
Mr. Hays was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1974. Since that time, he has been admitted to the U.S. District Court for all districts of Texas. Further, he also has been a member of the 5th Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals since 1979. He serves as a fellow of the Houston Bar Foundation and the Texas Bar Foundation, and he is a member of the Texas Association of Defense Counsel, serving as district director from 1988 to 1990 and Houston area vice president from 2001 to 2004. Mr. Hays' leadership in his field also includes a tenure on the board of directors for TADC-PAC. He is also a member of the Texas Association of Civil Trial and Appellate Specialist. In addition, he has been named in the Best Trial Lawyers in America Publication every year since 2005 and is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and is a fellow of the ABOTA Foundation. Other affiliations include the Defense Research Institute and the American Bar Association. He has also been named as one of the Texas Best Lawyers and has been named as a Super Lawyer every year since its inception in 2003. He is rated AV Preeminent by Martindale Hubbell.
In addition to his nearly four decades of legal experience and numerous prestigious accolades, he has prior experience as chairman of the board for Kingwood Bank, and served as a director for Partners Bank of Texas where he chaired the Corporate Governance and IT Committees. He is currently an organizer and member of the board of directors for Plains State Bank where he serves as Chairman of the Governance Committee and also serves on the Audit, Loan and ALCO Committee.
