Mr. Sutton is a 1985 graduate of The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, in Charleston, SC, and a 1993 graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law. After graduating from The Citadel, he was commissioned as a Regular Army Officer, Armor/Cavalry, in the United States Army. He served 5 years on active duty, three of which were spent forward deployed in Germany with the 1st Armored Division at the crescendo of the Cold War. He spent 30 of 36 months in Germany as a "Green Tab" combat arms platoon leader, serving as both a tank and cavalry scout platoon leader. He attained the rank of Captain during his service, earned Airborne and Air Assault badges, and was awarded two Army Commendation Medals and the Overseas Service Ribbon.
He has taught paralegal classes at the local technical college, taught SC Bar and criminal defense lawyer organization seminars, including a course for new magistrate judges, and written several published articles on legal topics. He previously served as the Vice President and Circuit Representative of the SC Criminal Defense Lawyers, served on the board of the Grand Strand Humane Society, and as the President of the Grand Strand Sertoma Club. He is a member of The Citadel Leaders in Philanthropy Society.
