Biography

G. Scott Vezina represents families of children with cerebral palsy and brain or spinal cord injuries caused by medical negligence. He has been involved in several multimillion dollar verdicts and settlements against obstetricians, pediatricians, hospitals, and other healthcare providers in 13 states, and regularly handles select, complex catastrophic medical negligence cases in courtrooms across the country on a pro hac vice basis. He also represents victims of aviation accidents around the world. A licensed pilot himself, Scott brings his experience in the cockpit to the highest courts. He is known for achieving top level results. His aircraft cases have resulted in substantial settlements.   Birth Injury Cases   In 2015, Scott helped secure a record-breaking $20 million pretrial settlement in a birth injury case in Pennsylvania. This recovery, made on behalf of a family whose child suffers from cerebral palsy as a result of elevated bilirubin and kernicterus experienced during the neonatal period, is believed to be the largest such medical negligence settlement ever in Pennsylvania.   Scott has helped secure dozens of seven and eight figure recoveries, including a record-breaking $78.5 million verdict, a sum that is believed to represent the largest medical negligence verdict ever in Pennsylvania, on behalf of a family whose child has cerebral palsy as a result of a brain injury she suffered due to a hypoxic ischemic event just before birth. In 2016, Scott also helped secure a $30.5 million jury verdict in Lawrenceville, Georgia in favor of a severely brain damaged baby and her mother. This is believed to be the largest medical malpractice verdict in the country, and one of the largest in Georgia.   Aircraft Litigation   Scott has litigated numerous aircraft crash cases throughout the world including the crash of a Westwind in Panama City, Panama; the crash of a Cessna 210 in Mendoza, Argentina; the crash of a Piper Chieftain carrying the recording artist Aaliyah Haughton in the Bahamas; and the crash of a Piper Seneca in northeast Florida. Each of these cases resulted in significant confidential settlements on behalf of the survivors and families of the deceased.   Scott holds an “AV” rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest ranking available by the international legal guide, and has been named a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer in 2014 2015 and 2016. From 1997 to 2004, Scott was appointed Special Assistant Attorney General for the state of Louisiana. Before that, he served as an adjunct professor at Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach and St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami.   About Scott   As the son of a third generation rice, soybean, and crawfish farmer from Louisiana, Scott has spent the last few years acclimating to the cold northeast winters with his lovely wife and two sons. Scott can be found most weekends either exploring little towns or festivals around Pennsylvania and New Jersey with his family, or sightseeing from the sky as a licensed pilot.   Scott is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania, Missouri, Texas, Florida, Louisiana, the U.S. District Court for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern, Middle, and Western Districts of Louisiana, the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits, and the U.S. Tax Court. He has also handled cases on a pro hac vice basis in New Jersey, North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi, Illinois, Oklahoma, and California.   Scott earned his J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law and his B.A. from College of the Holy Cross. He also received an LL.M. from Regent University School of Law.
