Tanner received his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Geosciences in 2015 and his Master of Arts for Teachers in 2016. He completed his Juris Doctor in 2020 from Faulkner University Thomas Goode Jones School of Law, where he was a 1L Moot Court Competition Quarterfinalist. As a student at Faulkner University, Tanner participated as the Honor Court Chief Justice and was a member of Phi Alpha Delta Fraternity. He served on the student representative information resources and facilities committee and was the secretary of the Sports Law and Entertainment society. He also, served on the Board of Advocates senior and was a Hein Closing Argument participant.
