Biography

Afton represents clients in a broad range of commercial and business litigation matters in state and federal court. Her experience includes representing healthcare clients in managed care litigation and Texas Medicaid Fraud Prevention Act litigation. Afton has also represented debtors, creditors, and trustees in bankruptcy court. She also has experience in bank failure litigation.

Before joining the firm, she was an Associate at Brown McCarroll.

Defended home health company in Fair Labor Standards Act overtime lawsuit.

•Assisted in obtaining summary judgment and sanctions against opposition in Racketeer Influences and Corrupt Organizations Act action seeking $4.5 million in damages from ten defendants and obtained favorable decision from the Third Court of Appeals.

•Assisted in a bankruptcy adversary that resulted in alter ego findings and the recovery of significant assets in the Cayman Islands through the substantive consolidation of non-debtor assets into the bankruptcy estate.

•Represented Chapter 11 debtors in bankruptcy cases that resulted in true reorganization, including nursing home nonprofit organization, an international shipping company and candle manufacturing company.

•Represented acquiring entity in acquisition of propane company through a Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding.
