Ms. Amy W. Slaughter

Amy is pleased to join MAPA’s long tradition of serving its community where she currently practices in general litigation. Amy joined MAPA in May of 2025 after leading a fulfilling solo practice for over twenty years. During her time as a general practitioner, she enjoyed transactional law, some wills and probate, and working with non-profit organizations. The heart and soul of her practice was helping families navigate the foster and adoption process. This practice area included working with private adoption agencies, CPS adoptions, interventions into CPS cases, and several appeals where she honed her research and writing skills. She was privileged and humbled to work with hundreds of families from every background and in over 40 Texas counties. Amy counts that work as a great joy in her career.

Before graduating from the University of Houston Law Center and passing the bar exam in 2000, Amy earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas, Austin, where she majored in studio art. She taught art during summer sessions at the Junior School of the Glassell School of Art and then for three years in public schools where she developed a passion for helping children. Originally from Houston, Amy and her husband John raised their son and daughter in the Humble/Kingwood area before moving to Galveston in 2021. While they maintain close ties to their former community, they love living in historic Galveston.
